Kilometer long queues along our border with Turkey at the „Malko Tarnovo“ checkpoint after the holidays angered the mayor of the municipality, Iliyan Yanchev. He wrote on the social network:

„And since it soon became a question of how old this battle is for the expansion of the Malko Tarnovo border crossing point and we talked about the support of the fellow mayors from the Burgas region – to make this a common cause, today, when everyone is going home at the end of the holidays, I have no words, with which I can express what I see in the photos and how long people don’t actually see the border – for now three hours, I don’t know how much more! Mothers with children, pregnant women, elderly people are waiting…

And everyone is so exhausted and angry from waiting for hours, that I think with this zeal and negative energy they would make a serious first sod for the expansion of the checkpoint if they had a pickaxe each…

Let the next holidays and trips at least not leave such bitterness in people…

In an interview with BNR, Yanchev emphasized that his battle has been going on for more than 15 years. According to him, an expansion of the point will also bring investments to the region.

Since yesterday’s meeting of the official government, there has been a decision to start a procedure on the project for the expansion of the „Malko Tarnovo“ border crossing. However, the mayor noted that he has already heard such promises many times. However, he emphasized that for the first time he has seen such a lightning reaction from the Council of Ministers and even from the Prime Minister.

Iliyan Yanchev described the state of the border crossing:

„The border looks so gray, ugly, as if you are entering the third world, not a European country. Malko Tarnovo is an entry border and Europe and Bulgaria begin there. We need care, attention. People work there who no longer want to work. It’s a lot it’s hard to work at such an unwelcoming station where every second person comes and starts to transmit negative energy, collected malice, because nobody likes to sit, wait and have no rules. It’s high time for a statesman’s thinking“.

According to him, the new modernization project will be financed entirely by the state. However, according to him, the project must be coordinated with Turkey and be mirrored on both sides of the border.
