A giraffe was rescued at the Miami Zoo

Zoo Miami is a favorite for kids and adults alike.

Many people don’t realize that this is a small town.

There, the inhabitants cannot communicate with words.

You need to know the language of animals to understand what they need.

Especially when they are sick.

Here’s an incident from yesterday:

Yesterday, an 8-month-old male giraffe named, „Turtle,“ underwent surgery to remove a bone fragment in his right rear leg. The fragment was most likely the result of a previous unknown trauma leading to pain in the joint and an abnormal gait. Because the altered gait could lead to more severe issues resulting in a life-threatening situation, it was imperative that the bone fragment be surgically removed to relieve the pain and hopefully restore a normal gait.
Equine veterinary specialist, Dr. Alexander Daniel, along with his team consisting of veterinarian Dr. Sarah Gracida, veterinary technicians, Carson Gavalline and Gabrielle Ruiz, and veterinary student, Triston Lackey, volunteered their time to perform this very special surgery.

They were assisted by Zoo Miami’s veterinarians Dr. Rodney Schnellbacher, Dr. Marisa Bezjian, Dr. Gaby Flacke and Dr. Gwen Myers, along with the zoo’s Animal Health team.

Although still considered a juvenile, this young giraffe weighs more than 500 pounds and stands close to 10 feet tall. It took a team of over a dozen people working together to successfully immobilize, transport, and monitor the giraffe during a procedure that took a total of just over 2 hours.

While immobilized, the giraffe received a series of radiographs to help determine the best surgical approach while also having a routine blood draw. Following the removal of the bone fragment, the joint was infused with hydrogel and stem cells to promote healing. In addition, Turtle received laser therapy, acupuncture therapy, and massage therapy, all designed to make the healing process more comfortable in the following days.

As of this writing, Turtle is up and walking normally, giving every indication that the surgery was a success! He will remain off-exhibit for the next few days so he can be carefully monitored to help ensure that the positive progress continues!

The animals at the Miami Zoo also love sweets.

On warm days, watermelon and cantaloupe are the most pleasant.

„Watermelon sugar summer in full effect 🍉 Our animals at ZooMiami are enjoying a slice of life from our friends at The Berry Farm. Thanks a melon for the generous donation! 😄“, the zoo wrote.

They also released some pictures.

Primates have a sweet tooth.

Comments poured in:

I love these staged pics!
When paying customers come to visit, they see nothing!

Wish it was summer!

David Beckham appeared unrecognizable in a spacesuit and greeted the bees in his hive

Few have seen David Beckham dressed like this.
He appeared in a space suit.
In fact, he is dressed in a beekeeper’s suit.
The world-famous football player has a curious hobby.
He is engaged in beekeeping and honey extraction.
Today he showed footage on Facebook of this happening.
Beckham carefully cares for his hives.
Archies’ song Sugar Sugar is played in the video.

„World Bee Day, be grateful, be kind, be sweet,“ Beckham wrote.

All three of Beckham’s children help him with the beekeeping.

He bought them special suits because this hobby is quite dangerous.

You can see the video here https://www.facebook.com/reel/3552428818414860

Beckham looks after bees at his country estate in the Cotswolds, where he moved with his family in March 2020.
He has eight hives that he assembled himself and stocked with bees.
Beckham shared on Instagram that he was very excited about his first copper mining.

Why is David Beckham into beekeeping?

David Beckham is a beekeeper because he likes to spend time with his bees, take care of them, observe them and collect their honey.

This is one of his latest hobbies that he started during the quarantine due to the coronavirus.

He sees bee care as an antidote to the crazy lifestyle in London and Miami.
He also plans to turn his hobby into a successful business and sell honey under his own brand.

World Bee Day is celebrated on May 20.
This date was chosen because it is the birthday of Anton Janša, who is considered a pioneer in modern beekeeping. World Bee Day was announced by a UN resolution in December 2017 and aims to raise awareness of the importance of bees and their protection.
Bees play a critical role in the ecosystem and agriculture, being responsible for the pollination of many plant species, including many agricultural crops.
However, bees face serious threats from environmental changes, pesticide use, disease and parasites. Therefore, it is necessary to take measures to preserve bee populations and develop sustainable beekeeping.

Besides beekeeping, Beckham continues with football.

He has his own soccer club in Miami called Inter Miami. He is the owner and president of the club that competes in Major League Soccer.

Beckham has expressed his desire to bring big stars such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar to his team.

He has been in talks with some of them and hopes to convince them to come to Miami.

Beckham is also close friends with Phil Neville, who coaches Inter Miami.

Zoo Miami also greeted the beekeepers and provided trivia about bees.

💛 Today is #WorldBeeDay! Check out these Un-BEE-lievable facts about these incredible pollinators:
🐝If you find a bumblebee which appears to be struggling, it may be that it is just resting, particularly if the bee is a queen in early spring.
🐝Bees actually have four wings!
🐝Social bees, such as honeybees and bumblebees, often live in hives or nests, above or below the ground, while most solitary bees nest in the ground.

Zoo Miami is a great place.

The thousands of animal species are incredible there, as well as the people who take care of them.

The zoo showed exceptional care for a sea turtle.

Specialists want to save the turtle’s life.

On Friday, May 12th, a loggerhead sea turtle that is currently receiving care at Zoo Miami’s Sea Turtle Hospital, was transported to Advanced Veterinary Care Specialists in Davie, FL, to receive a computed tomography (CT) scan.

Here’s what the zoo said.

The transport and care was managed by Zoo Miami Associate Veterinarian, Dr. Marisa Bezjian, assisted by Animal Health Specialist, Julie Heyde.

Veterinary Internist, Dr. Luis Macho, performed the scan and donated his time, staff and facilities to Zoo Miami in support of the care of this endangered turtle.

The turtle was brought to Zoo Miami on April 27th after being found tangled in a buoy line at the Deering Estate.

It was suffering from several tumors caused by the fibropapilloma virus. This virus has been documented in all species of sea turtles but rarely in loggerheads.

The severity of the tumors can range from mild, causing small external tumors, to severe, causing massive external tumors that can result in blindness and other debilitating factors, as well as internal tumors on vital organs that usually lead to death. Although we know it is caused by a type of Herpes virus, it is not known why it has become so prevalent over the last several decades. There have been several studies that indicate it may be linked to pollution and climate change.
This particular individual is a sub-adult, estimated to be between 15-20 years old, and weighing just over 100 pounds. Its gender is unknown at this time as it is very difficult to determine the sex of sub-adult sea turtles.
Initial results of the CT scan indicate that the tumors may have spread to internal organs which could result in a very grim prognosis for this turtle. The Animal Health Team will evaluate the detailed results of all tests to discuss what will be the best course of action moving forward.

Sea turtles are reptiles that live in the warm marine waters of tropical oceans. They are among the oldest animals on the planet and have been around since the age of the dinosaurs. There are seven species of sea turtles that differ in size, shape and diet.

The lives of sea turtles are difficult and fraught with danger.

They are threatened by habitat loss, pollution, poaching, fishing, climate change and disease. According to various sources, the life expectancy of sea turtles ranges from 30 to 100 years, but their exact age is difficult to measure. Many sea turtles die as babies or young animals due to predators and other factors. Only one in a thousand baby turtles make it to adulthood.
