The Covenant of Water is a new novel by Abraham Verghese, a renowned Indian-American physician and writer.

The book follows three generations of a family in the coastal region of Kerala, India, as they are haunted by a devastating event that repeats itself over and over again: in each generation, someone in the family drowns.

The novel is rich in water metaphors and explores themes such as family, religion, medicine and history.
