Three became the victims of the extreme rainfall and storms from the Mediterranean cyclone „Daniel“ in Greece, reported the Greek national television ERT.

The Greek authorities cut off traffic on a section of the Athens-Thessaloniki highway

An eighty-two-year-old man was found dead in the village of Elinopyrgos in the prefecture of Thessaly in central Greece after being swept away by the incoming waters.

The other victims of the cyclone are a woman found in the Magnisia area and a man who died when a wall collapsed on him in the Volos area.

Greek authorities and residents continue to search for three more people missing in central Greece.

A state of emergency was declared yesterday in the regions of Magnisia, Trikala, Karditsa, Sporades and three more municipalities in Larissa due to the heavy rains and storms in Central Greece.

The fire service said it had received a total of 4,870 calls since Tuesday, most of them related to pumping out water, removing fallen trees and getting people to safety, Sky TV reported. In the prefecture of Thessaly alone, fire officials received 3,100 calls.

The office calls on residents to be especially careful and to follow the instructions of the competent authorities.

According to the National Weather Service, the severe weather, which is causing untold damage to infrastructure, homes, businesses and crops, will continue into the afternoon hours with heavy rain and a high frequency of lightning.

About 10 days ago, strong winds contributed to power outages in many places. At least 600 Eversource customers were affected. There were also downed trees and the Martha’s Vineyard dock flooded.
Wind gusts reached 57 mph.
A little while ago, the police issued a warning for people to be ready. Very strong winds are expected and damage is possible. Residents should immediately secure things that could fall. For example pots and other heavy objects. Bring them home.
A public room will be opened for people in need.
The Dennis Center for Aging in South Dennis on Route 134 will be open for that purpose.
The temperature is currently 43 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s raining and snowing. The wind is 17 mph.
In the coming days, its speed will almost double.
