The elephant at the Miami Zoo showed who is the King of the Animals

Elephants are proven to be one of the most beloved animals in the world.

It is customary to assume that the Lion is the king, but in fact the elephant is the animal that is invincible to any beast.

Its scale is enormous, and even the great lions look like little kittens at its feet.

The elephants at the Miami Zoo are of two species, African and Asian.

The African women are both 48 years old.

The Asian girls are 54 and 13, explains Kirsten, who takes care of them.

Baby elephants play with toys like little children.

We are happy to communicate with them, explains Kirsten.

A clip showed one of them having a good time.

Somehow, he was given a cardboard figure of an elephant as a toy.

The giant is intrigued like a child by the doll and crushes it in seconds.

The elephant seems to be happy.

Miami is part of the International Elephant Organization, which seeks to protect the species, prevent trafficking.

People are adamant that they can watch the elephants play all day.

Meet Zoo Miami’s newest hero

Zoo Miami is one of the largest in the US and the world.

Zoo Miami is one of the largest and oldest zoos in Florida and the only tropical zoo in the continental United States. It occupies almost 750 acres (304 hectares) and is home to more than 3,000 animals representing over 500 different species. Zoo Miami has more than 100 special exhibits that display a variety of species and scientific topics. The zoo offers many attractions and activities for visitors such as carts, camels, elephants, giraffes, canoes, bicycles and many more.

The Miami Zoo ticket depends on the age and status of the visitor. According to the zoo’s official website, the prices are as follows: http://zoosofia.eu/tickets/

• Adults (13-64): $22.95

• Children (3-12 years): $18.95

• Seniors (65+): $21.95

• Children (2 years and under): free

• Persons with disabilities: $11.00

The zoo also offers a variety of packages and discounts for group visits, members, military personnel and others.

Now there’s a new reason to visit:

On June 14th, Zoo Miami welcomed the arrival of “Winston Eugene Portland III,” or “Winston” for short. Winston is a cheetah cub that was born at Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon on May 9th.

His full name is a tribute to the cities that played a role in his life as he traveled through in Oregon during his trip to Miami.

As per the recommendation of the Cheetah Species Survival Plan (SSP), he and his littermates have been selected to become ambassadors for their species at different zoos around the country.

The Cheetah SSP is a group of professional experts that provide recommendations in the management of a species under human care to maintain a genetically diverse, demographically varied, and biologically sound population.

Upon arrival, Winston was secluded in a quarantine area where he received a series of tests and exams to help ensure that he was healthy and developing normally.

During that time, he was carefully monitored and cared for by a team of Animal Science and Animal Health experts as they slowly acclimated him to his new surroundings and prepared him for his future role as an ambassador animal.

We are happy to announce that Winston has now successfully cleared quarantine and will soon be making public appearances on a random basis as the staff prepares him for his role as a future star of the Zoo Miami Ambassador Team. He will be the successor to our present cheetah ambassadors, Koda and Diesel, who are getting up in age and will be looking at retirement in the not too distant future.

Through the Zoo Miami Cheetah Ambassador Program, established more than two decades ago, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised to directly support cheetah conservation efforts in the wild. Moving forward, it is hoped that Winston will play a major role in the continued support of those efforts.

Cheetahs are considered to be Africa’s most endangered big cat with only about 7,000 remaining in the wild. Their biggest threat is human conflict as they are often shot by farmers who consider them a threat to their livestock. Unlike other big cats, cheetahs do not roar but do purr.

They are the world’s fastest land animal reaching speeds of close to 70 mph in less than 5 seconds.

Found in isolated pockets of Eastern and Southern Africa as well as a very small population in Asia, cheetahs are not considered a danger to humans and are often attacked and killed by other predators such as lions, leopards and hyenas.

Comments poured in

How simply adorable
Happy retirement to Koda and Diesel!

Omg! What a cutie! Will be fabulous when all grown up!

Winston, welcome to Miami…You are totally awesome.

Why aren’t the cheetahs on exhibit?

What a sweet baby! Welcome home

Elephants are one of the most beloved animals in the world.

August is Asian Elephant Awareness Month, and we’re celebrating with gentle giants – Nellie and Ongard! Join us for a trunk-full of fun as we share a peek into their day – from firehose enrichment to mobility sessions, Miami Zoo wrote.

The people who take care of them are happy even on the hottest days.
They shower them with cold showers.

There are four elephants at the Miami Zoo – two African and two Asian.

Nelly is 54 years old, Ongard is 13.

They are the oldest and youngest elephants at Zoo Miami.

It is very important to add substrate to their habitat every day to cushion their steps and ease the strain on their joints.

These animals weigh from 8 to 10 thousand pounds.

The Asian elephant is a species of elephant that lives in South and Southeast Asia.

It is smaller than the African elephant and has smaller ears and tusks. According to my web search, the Asian elephant can live about 70 years in the wild. In captivity, it can live up to 80 years or more. The longest-lived Asian elephant in captivity was Lin Wan, who died aged 86 in Taiwan in 2003

In the zoo you can also see other animals such as giraffes, rhinos, camels, giant tortoises and birds. You can enjoy the monorail or tram for an aerial view of the zoo or get involved in feeding the animals

Turtles at Zoo Miami have become hockey players

An amazing sight at our favorite Miami zoo.

Hockey turtles appeared on the field.

„Gear up, South Florida! Our shelled friend is all set for tonight’s epic showdown between the Florida Panthers and the Vegas Golden Knights! 🐾🏒🌟 Let’s rally behind our team and roar for victory!“, reported the Zoo in Miami.

The turtles were ready for a fierce battle.

There was everything on the field for the Miami Turtles to crush the Vegas Knights.

But it didn’t work out that way.

The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Florida Panthers 7-2 at home in the second game of the Stanley Cup Final playoffs in the National Hockey League (NHL) of the United States and Canada. Thus, the team took a 2-0 lead in the series, which is played up to four successes. The third meeting will be played on June 9 in Florida. Jonathan Marchessault was the hero for Vegas with two goals and two assists.

It cannot be determined exactly how many turtles there are at the Miami Zoo. I found information about some species of turtles found at the zoo, such as the spiny-tailed tortoise, the Aldabran tortoise, and the Galapagos tortoise, but I did not find a total number of all the tortoises. If you want to learn more about the different types of turtles, you can visit Zoo Miami’s official website or contact them by phone or email.

The speed of turtles depends on their species and the environment in which they move. Some general facts about the speed of turtles are:

• Aquatic turtles are much faster than those on land. They reach a speed of 35 km/h.

• The slowest turtle is the giant tortoise. On land, it moves at a speed of less than 0.4 km/h.

• For short distances, turtles can develop a speed of about 3 km/h

Visitors to the Miami Zoo love animals, but few know that there are real athletes among them.

This is Kakadu already scoring baskets for Miami.

„In Miami, even our birds are ballers! Watch Sunny dunk for the Miami Heat! 🏀 🔥 Show us what you got, Denver Zoo! #NBAFinals Denver Nuggets #LiveZooMiami #DenverNuggets #MiamiHeat,“ the zoo wrote.

Zoo Miami is one of the largest zoos in the United States, housing more than 2,500 animals from about 400 different species. There are many types of parrots in the zoo, such as macaws, jacko, cockatoos and others.
There is no exact information on the number of parrots at the Miami Zoo, but it can be assumed that they are several tens or hundreds. If you want to see parrots up close, you can also visit Jungle Island, an eco-adventure park in the heart of Miami, where you can meet a variety of birds and animals.
You can even have unforgettable interactions with some of them.

The game between Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat will take place today at 16:30.
This will be the first meeting of the NBA Finals, where the two teams will fight for the „Larry O’Brien“ trophy. Denver has home field advantage and is the top seed in the Western Conference.
Miami is the first team to reach the final, starting from the „play-in“ phase.

Zoo Miami apologized to New Zealand: The Kiwi Encounter will no longer be offered

A clip from the Miami Zoo has sparked outrage in New Zealand.

The clip shows people treating the kiwi as if it were a puppy.

The zoo offers an encounter with a kiwi for $25.

The New Zealand press published scathing criticism.

The kiwi is a national symbol of the island nation and the video has moved people.

A petition has been set up calling for an investigation into the conditions Paora lives in and to relocate him to another home, with over 2000 signatures already.

It said: „Kiwis are our precious Taonga not America’s toys.“, writes rnz.co.nz

Zoo Miami issued an apology.

Here is what they write:

First and foremost, on behalf of everyone at Zoo Miami, please accept our most profound and sincere apology for the stress initiated by a video on social media depicting the handling and housing of „Paora,“ the kiwi bird that is currently under our care. The concerns expressed by have been taken very seriously and as a result, effective immediately, the Kiwi Encounter will no longer be offered.

Although Paora has thrived at Zoo Miami while receiving the best care available, the development of the Kiwi Encounter was, in hindsight, not well conceived with regard to the national symbolism of this iconic animal and what it represents to the people of New Zealand, especially the Maori.

Having had the honor of hosting the Honorable New Zealand Ambassador to the United States and several representatives of the Maori people during a special naming ceremony here at Zoo Miami, it is especially painful to all of us to think that anything that has occurred with Paora here at Zoo Miami would be offensive to any of the wonderful people of New Zealand.

Again, we are deeply sorry.

Please know that Paora is normally kept out of public view in a quiet area.

This area provides him with a special shelter that enables him to remain in relative darkness during the day so that he can, at his discretion, come out and explore his
habitat in the quiet of the evening.

Plans are currently underway to build a special habitat for him that will continue to provide him with the shelter that he needs while respecting and supporting his natural instincts.

It will be developed in such a way that we can teach our guests about the amazing kiwi without any direct contact from the public.

Zoo Miami feels extremely privileged to be the first facility in the state of Florida to successfully hatch a kiwi as part of a partnership with the Smithsonian National Zoo. We are happy to have watched him grow and thrive under our care and are
committed to providing him with the best environment possible while respecting and honoring all that he represents.
Thank you for expressing your concern, love and passion for this remarkable bird. We are listening and will do better to provide it with the respect and committed care that it so richly deserves.

Footage from the Miami Zoo has people in awe

Zoo Miami is a great place.

The thousands of animal species are incredible there, as well as the people who take care of them.

The zoo showed exceptional care for a sea turtle.

Specialists want to save the turtle’s life.

On Friday, May 12th, a loggerhead sea turtle that is currently receiving care at Zoo Miami’s Sea Turtle Hospital, was transported to Advanced Veterinary Care Specialists in Davie, FL, to receive a computed tomography (CT) scan.

Here’s what the zoo said.

The transport and care was managed by Zoo Miami Associate Veterinarian, Dr. Marisa Bezjian, assisted by Animal Health Specialist, Julie Heyde.

Veterinary Internist, Dr. Luis Macho, performed the scan and donated his time, staff and facilities to Zoo Miami in support of the care of this endangered turtle.

The turtle was brought to Zoo Miami on April 27th after being found tangled in a buoy line at the Deering Estate.

It was suffering from several tumors caused by the fibropapilloma virus. This virus has been documented in all species of sea turtles but rarely in loggerheads.

The severity of the tumors can range from mild, causing small external tumors, to severe, causing massive external tumors that can result in blindness and other debilitating factors, as well as internal tumors on vital organs that usually lead to death. Although we know it is caused by a type of Herpes virus, it is not known why it has become so prevalent over the last several decades. There have been several studies that indicate it may be linked to pollution and climate change.
This particular individual is a sub-adult, estimated to be between 15-20 years old, and weighing just over 100 pounds. Its gender is unknown at this time as it is very difficult to determine the sex of sub-adult sea turtles.
Initial results of the CT scan indicate that the tumors may have spread to internal organs which could result in a very grim prognosis for this turtle. The Animal Health Team will evaluate the detailed results of all tests to discuss what will be the best course of action moving forward.

Sea turtles are reptiles that live in the warm marine waters of tropical oceans. They are among the oldest animals on the planet and have been around since the age of the dinosaurs. There are seven species of sea turtles that differ in size, shape and diet.

The lives of sea turtles are difficult and fraught with danger.

They are threatened by habitat loss, pollution, poaching, fishing, climate change and disease. According to various sources, the life expectancy of sea turtles ranges from 30 to 100 years, but their exact age is difficult to measure. Many sea turtles die as babies or young animals due to predators and other factors. Only one in a thousand baby turtles make it to adulthood.

Zoo Miami is one of the largest and most diverse zoos in the United States. It is located south of Miami and occupies an area of 750 acres. The zoo is home to over 3,000 animals from more than 500 species, including many rare and endangered species.
The zoo is divided into four themed areas: Asia, Africa, the Amazon and beyond, and Australia.

Zoo Miami offers many fun and educational activities for visitors, such as animal feeding, a petting zoo, a monorail, a tram, and a carousel. The zoo is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, with the last tickets sold at 16:00.
The price of the ticket for adults is 22 dollars, and for children from 3 to 12 years it is 21 dollars.
You can buy tickets online or at the venue
