We love Bulgaria and the Bulgarian language no less than all traditional people and families.

We have the same values, we keep and love our traditions and raise our children in them.

This was stated on BTV by Elena Genova and Galina Georgieva, who live as a family together with their two children – Niki and Karisa.

The two got married in Malta last year, but it is not recognized by Bulgarian legislation and in our country it is considered purely symbolic.

Elena is Niki’s biological mother, and Carissa calls Galina „mom“.

One is an employee at a bank and the other is an HR specialist at a digital business company. The two showed enviable courage by appearing on posters and billboards promoting Sofia Pride. Unsurprisingly, their family photo was insulted in many places, scrawled with cynicism and negative reactions, covered in paint and what not.

The two clearly explained the difficulties in their lives caused by the fact that same-sex marriages are not recognized in Bulgaria.

The biggest problem is that they can’t make a decision about the children that they are not the biological parents of in some emergency situation.

„We are not fighting for any privileges, we want the same rules to apply to us as other families,“ said Galina Georgieva. She also admitted that the love for Bulgaria and Bulgarian things is the reason why she and Elena did not go abroad, where their rights would be respected like everyone else’s.

They also said that they decided to get married on May 21, the feast of St. St. Konstantin and Elena, because fire-making is their favorite Bulgarian tradition. According to them, it is important to stay in Bulgaria in order to give courage to the others who have the same obstacles in their lives as theirs.

Staff FB, Mihaela Fileva

Bulgarian singer Mihaela Fileva was „torn“ on Facebook even by her fans after a harmless invitation to Sofia Pride.

The event is coming in the poorest country in the EU – Bulgaria.

The singer hardly expected the hatred that would be poured on her without having offended absolutely anyone, but on the contrary – with a call for tolerance.

Here is what she wrote:

„Our family invites you to @sofiapridebg ❤🏳️‍🌈

And this year, I choose to go on stage at the largest protest fighting for equal human rights that takes place in our country. Again, I do it for free because I believe that love is the answer to every problem. I dream of living without the need to judge or point fingers, to love each other without labeling, and to approach with understanding and empathy the problems of the different communities represented by our best friends, parents, brothers, sisters, children.

We will see you on June 17th, at the monument in the Prince’s Garden opposite SU, we start at 2 p.m. ❤🏳️‍🌈

Love!“

Here are some of the more moderate comments:

„Michaela, aren’t you ashamed? Shame on you for supporting these sick minds..“

„Society must need you with something (if you’re not transgender) to protect your womb! Parades are unnecessary! Children kill people like you and children’s psyches! But you have no way of understanding this, because you don’t have children and you’re just another parasite who wants to get some airtime and fame!

„Yet again you are talking nonsense that is harmful to children! Do you not understand this! Did you see the movie? It is a business for millions! Chemical castration of children + sex reassignment !! What is there to discuss it? And enough of this hateful nonsense ! No one hates them, but to take away the rights of children with mom and dad seems wrong to say the least! DISEASES are not advertised!“

Michaela still decides to answer, even though it’s pointless:

„I’m sorry, but I cannot promote discrimination, unacceptable treatment or verbal abuse against any group of PEOPLE. I will gladly try to patiently explain to each of you what civil rights the LGBT+ community is deprived of, why the existence of Sofia Pride is important to us as a society, what is the difference between a peaceful protest and „parading“ and any other topics that excite or concern you, you just need to be willing to show tolerance for a different point of view than yours and a little empathy for people whose problems you are not familiar with, because you are obviously not personally affected. That is the only way to have a constructive discussion – without the caustic words demonstrating hatred, they are unnecessary and do not lead to anything meaningful. Feel free to write to me if you want to talk about the topic privately or publicly here in comments.

And please, everyone, as much as you can, try to write competently and reasoned. Thanks! „
