Antonio Banderas to play Tsar in new film

Hollywood star Antonio Banderas will shoot in Bulgaria in the documentary about the Bulgarian king Boris the Third. Hollywood greatness will most likely play the Bulgarian statesman himself.

The producer of the film is the Bulgarian multi-millionaire Darina Pavlova together with the owner of the production companies „New Image“ and „Millennium Film“ Avi Lerner (The two are in the photo above).

The 62-year-old Hollywood star has already been to Bulgaria several times and talks about the details of the historical film, which will start filming in the fall. It is not clear exactly what Banderas’ role will be in the film, as the option of seeing him as Tsar Boris III himself is very high.

The screenwriter of the tape will not be Bulgarian. Avi Lerner, owner of the production companies „New Image“ and „Millennium Film“ mentioned the film some time ago in front of Antonio Banderas.

The three together with the then Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova were viewing the Picasso exhibition in our national gallery.

Then Avi Lerner even asked Banderas – „Do you want to play the king?“. „Yes!“ – answers Banderas.

There is also a good casting of Bulgarian actors, which will be conducted by Darina Pavlova, and it is expected that some of the iconic names will join the project. It is almost certain that the participation of Asen Blatechki, who is close to the heads of the film studios. Blatechki also played in a biographical film about Burov, so he is not unfamiliar with the intricacies of the era. Castings are expected to start after September 15th and will be held on the territory of „New Boyana Films“.

The main thing that will be emphasized in the film is the role played by Tsar Boris III in saving the Bulgarian Jews.

In addition to her, not very well-known moments from the ruler’s life will be shown.

„The truth is that the cast has been discussed for a long time, and the script was ready last year,“ people from the team announced. In addition to Lerner, co-producer is Darina Pavlova. Iliya Pavlov’s widow has been producing films for years, and two have already been made by her company.

„Czar Boris the Third really supports the Jews in Bulgaria, but it turns out that there are a lot more people involved in this story.

We want to show most of them by developing their characters in the film,“ explained Lerner. For greater credibility and to testify his respect, he also met with Simeon of Saxe-Coburg-Goth. The film will be shot in English, and for our market it will be released with Bulgarian subtitles.

The film studio in Boyana works perfectly with Darina Pavlova and her company. She was one of the initiators of Hollywood actors Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Antonio Banderas, Jason Statham, Barney Ross, Conrad Stonebanks and many others coming to our country. They all starred in „The Invincibles“. Thanks to her, an advertisement for the latest Porsche car model will be filmed in Sofia, but the details are a secret. Avi Lerner’s son – Yariv, is also a good friend of Darina.

The grandmother is currently in Marbella, where these days she will attend the birthday of one of the biggest advertisers in Spain.

In September in Venice, Pavlova will attend the most glamorous party, the AmFar gala, where stars and billionaires from all over the world will meet.

The last movie that Antonio Banderas starred in is Indiana Jones and the Fate/stay night, which is expected to be released in 2023. In it, he played the role of Caleb, one of Indiana Jones’ allies. The film is the fifth in the series about the adventures of the archaeologist-researcher who faces various dangers and mysteries around the world.

Banderas previously starred in another video game movie called Uncharted, which is set for release in 2022.

There, he plays the role of Santiago Moncada, the villainous leader of an organization that hunts the main character, Nathan Drake. The film is based on the popular PlayStation game series, which tells about the adventures of the treasure hunter Drake.
