New data emerged today about one of the Bulgarians arrested in the United Kingdom on suspicion of espionage for Russia.
In his LinkedIn profile, 45-year-old Orlin Rusev – considered the leader of the group – indicated that between 1997-2001 he studied at
the prestigious Queensland University of Technology, Australia. After checking, a spokesperson for the educational institution told bTV that
„there is no record of anyone with that name graduating from the university.“

Again on LinkedIn, Rusev claims to run a technology business related to „signals intelligence and communications security.“
although the company discontinued this business almost two years ago.
Earlier it became clear that through his company Rusev provided surveillance equipment to Jan Marsalek, who is behind one of
Germany’s biggest financial scams. In 2020, Marsalek fled on a private plane that landed in Minsk. It is believed to be from there
taken to Moscow by Russian foreign intelligence.

An acquaintance of two of the three Bulgarians, who were today found to have been detained in Great Britain for espionage for Russia, spoke exclusively to bTV. She does not want to be identified for personal reasons.

The arrested are 45-year-old Orlin Rusev, 41-year-old Biser Jambazov and 31-year-old Katrin Ivanova. They have worked and lived in the UK for years.

„We have always been on friendly terms, but we have not touched on matters of business and finance. But I always felt that there was something – from conversations, from hearing, from speaking in codes, frequent trips on schedules. I always had one thing in mind,“ the woman told bTV.

She has known Catherine and Biser, who are a couple, for many years. She voted in the section in West London, in which they were both members of the SEC, when there were elections in Bulgaria.

An acquaintance of hers worked for them. According to her, the two transported „bad people“ to various destinations, mainly the Western Balkans and the Middle East.

Biser Jambazov and Katrin Ivanova settled in Great Britain about ten years ago. The two lead the public organization Bulgarian Social Platform, which provides services to Bulgarian citizens, including language courses.
