Saturday morning sunrise report from Deltaville, courtesy of Chip Holt. Deltaville is a fishing and boating community on the eastern tip of Middlesex county, with lots of low-lying real estate.
The water pushing up from the bay could be a little higher with this afternoon’s high tide cycle before the water starts to recede.

My son had to leave his motorcycle in Deltaville because he came down with a stomach virus. Originally planned on taking him up to get it TODAY…. hoping for tomorrow…. hoping it’s not floating wherever the water will take it when it recedes!! I’m pretty sure it’s in a garage.

Why did I just see Jim Duncan on channel 6? The only reason I’m watching that channel is because of football. Why is Jim on 6?

It is almost low tide here in Mollusk and the docks are almost awash. Wind is 25 mph. Light rain at 0920.

It is about Kiptopeke State Park.

The place is unique and Andrew has decided to go there.

I had no idea!
At Kiptopeke State Park on the Eastern shore, they sunk nine concrete ships that were used during World War II. In 1948 they were „sunk“ 1/4 mile offshore to protect the Chesapeake bay ferry terminal. The water they are in is only about 10 feet deep.
The ferry doesn’t run anymore—now that the Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel gets you from the Eastern shore to Hampton Roads. But the ruins of the ships provide a breakwater for the state park plus serves as home to many types of wildlife.
Kayaks weren’t available to rent today, but I hear it’s an amazing thing to paddle out and look at up close.

We went there back in June. It’s a fantastic park. If you do go out to the ships, be sure to wear a life vest. They were giving kayakers and paddle boarders tickets left and right.

We were at the KOA camping this weekend and almost went by there today. Will plan on getting paddle boards for the family on our next trip or maybe bring the Seadoo’s and check them out…

We were camping there this past weekend at the state park. It’s wonderful. And we have taken a boat out to the ships. It us something to see that’s for sure

Way back when we stayed there, we were amazed at how clear the water was at the beach.

You can stand in water up to your shoulders and count your toes. There is almost nowhere you can do that on the western shore of the Bay!

Kiptopeke State Park, which is a state park located on the southern tip of Virginia’s Eastern Shore and the Delmarva Peninsula in Northampton County, near Cape Charles. This park offers recreational access to the Chesapeake Bay and the opportunity to explore a unique coastal habitat that is a major migratory flyway for birds.

The park has two and three bedroom cottages, six bedroom dormitories, caravan and tent sites, yurts and bungalows.

Guests can also enjoy the park’s boat launch, lighted fishing pier, picnic areas, 5.1 miles of hiking and biking trails, playground, beach bath and swimming beach.

Seasonal interpretive and educational programs focus on natural history, bird watching and bay ecology.

If you want to visit Kiptopeke State Park, you should know that it is open for day and night visit from 6 am to 10 pm. The fishing pier is open 24 hours a day from April 1 to December 31. The park is located three miles from the north end of the Chesapeake Bridge-Tunnel, which has a significant toll in both directions, on Route 13. Turn west on Route 704; the park entrance is within half a mile. The park has a swimming area from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

A few sprinkles and showers this morning, then there could be more this afternoon and evening. Best chance comes SOUTH of RVA. Limit time outdoors if you have heart or lung problems!
Have a great day,“ wrote Andrew.

Ministry of Environmental Quality environment made predictions for the city center.

A warning has been issued for Richmond and the surrounding area.

But I think everybody in all of Virginia have to be on the lookout for bad air quality today, all of that
it comes from the forest fires in Quebec, he explained.

• Tomorrow (June 8): High 88°F (31°C), low 58°F (14°C). Warmer with clouds and sun.

• Thursday (June 9): High 78°F (26°C), low 49°F (9°C). Broken clouds.

There are more than 150 fires in Quebec, 80 of which are out of control.

The most serious fires are in the North Shore and Abitibi-Temiskaming regions, where thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes.

Authorities have declared a local state of emergency and requested assistance from the Canadian Armed Forces. Rain is expected in the coming days, which could help limit the fire’s spread.

If you live in the affected area, please follow the instructions of the local authorities and stay in a safe place. If you do not live in the affected area, please avoid unnecessary travel to it and do not walk in the woods. Smoke from wildfires can affect air quality and cause respiratory problems.
