The remains of a giant were discovered during the rescue excavations of a private property in the village of Debelt, Sredets municipality.
Due to the future construction of a house there, a team of archaeologists, led by Assoc. Prof. Ivo D. Cholakov and Krasimira Kostova, revealed and studied 21 graves; According to scientists, they encountered the periphery of the Western Necropolis (II – III centuries) of the Roman colony of Deultum, writes on their page by Archeologia Bulgaria. In the most interesting grave # 10 there is a skeleton of 2.20 m long, without gifts.
Around shoes are found around the steps. Probably in life the person has suffered from gigantism or other rare disease, but this will be specified after the upcoming bone examination, reports Blagoevgrad24.bg.
Assoc. Prof. Victoria Ruseva will be provided with at least two more skeletons – from the southern necropolis of the colony, where the same team revealed 30 graves (II century AD). One of them found the skeletons of two people facing each other as if they wanted to stay together after death. Whether they have been in love, there is no way to understand, but the anthropological study will determine the gender, age and possibly the cause of the couple’s death. An interesting detail is that each of them was buried with a coin just below the chin.
