Ukraine’s participation in Euro 2024 can hardly be without political overtones.
And although the organizers tried hard to keep politics out of the stadium, the meeting between the Ukrainians and Romania was not without cracks.
It was forbidden to enter the stands with Russian flags, but the Romanian fans still found a way to annoy the opponent, corner.dir.bg reported.
Chants of „Putin“ could be heard from the stands before and during the match, each time being greeted with boos from the Ukrainian campaigner.
In one of the cases, stewards had to intervene, but since there were hundreds of chanters, there was no way to remove them from the stands.
One of the shots also shows a Romanian fan briefly waving the flag of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
For all this, the Romanian Federation is expected to be fined by UEFA.
And another curious thing – Euro 2024 is broadcast on the territory of Russia, but with restrictions.
Ukraine’s matches will not be aired after a Kremlin ban.
The restriction applies to all matches of Ukraine, regardless of the phase or the opponent.
The Ukrainians went down 0-3 in their opener against Romania, with Belgium and Slovakia ahead of them until the end of the group stage.
