Man came to US with $1,000 and built, owns and rents 160 luxury apartments in Chicago
Vasil Bayraktarov, one of the most successful Bulgarian businessmen in the USA, became one of the worthy Bulgarians for everything he does for Tsrancha and for popularizing Bulgarian culture and education in America. In his native village of Dospat, he built a sports park for over 1 million BGN and helps the local school. He was awarded by „24 Chasa“, and the editor-in-chief of the publication Borislav Zyumbylev presented the award to Vasil’s sister – Ruska. Bayraktarov joined in with a video address:
„America has taught me to give back to the society I live in. John Kennedy’s words: ‘Not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country’ I interpret as: ‘What you can do for for your city, for your village, for the park, for the school, for the sick neighbor“. They say that God judges goodness not by quantity, but by whether it is from the heart. I know that mine is,“ he said in his address Bayraktarov.
Bayraktarov started practically from scratch after leaving for the US more than two decades ago. He has lived in Chicago for 23 years. He graduated from a language high school, and then studied at UNSS, but was unable to graduate, because after the IV year at the university, he had the opportunity to leave.
„I had $1,000, but I was with three other people who didn’t have that much, so we spent it together,“ admits the emigrant, quoted by „24 Chasa“.
At first he worked as a truck driver and gradually started buying his own trucks. Thus acquired a large fleet of hundreds of trucks. In addition to business in transport and logistics, Bayraktarov successfully developed his interests in the field of real estate.
He has built, owns and rents over 160 luxury apartments in Chicago.
He has already done a lot for his native village, which is on the border between the Smolyan and Blagoevgrad regions, in the easternmost part of the Chech region, 3 km from the border with Greece. Until 30 years ago, it belonged to the municipality of Satovcha.
