Samuel Slavov from the MECH party in Bulgaria, who was sworn in as a member of parliament on March 14, surprisingly announced on Wednesday that he was resigning. This is happening after the revelations of journalists from the BIRD website that he was detained and tried in the US for defrauding ATMs, Media Pool reported
The resignation was voted with 202 votes „in favor“ and thus his powers were terminated. In his place, the next member of parliament on the Montana list of the party will become a member of parliament – Plamen Petkov.
Samuil Slavov turned out to be a member of parliament after the decision of the Constitutional Court (CS) in the case of contesting the elections. The electoral violations led to the rearrangement of the MECH list and Slavov was sworn in as a member of parliament.
Immediately after that, Bird.bg recalled its own investigation that Slavov was arrested for defrauding ATMs in the US. According to the media, Slavov first denied, but then admitted to the arrests. The MECH MP denies to other media outlets that such a thing happened.
On March 19, the Speaker of the Parliament Natalia Kiselova announced that Slavov had submitted a resignation letter, which was quickly voted on and approved by the plenary hall. He did not give any reasons for his sudden departure.
“BIRD sought official information about Samuil Slavov’s file from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in Florida and received it on the same day. MECH MP Samuil #Slavov was in prison for 4 /four months/. The information is public because American taxpayers spent 120 days feeding him,” the investigative website reported on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, most of the new Velichie MPs were sworn in as members of parliament. Among them was the party’s founder, Ivelin Mihaylov.
