When this happens, customers who find themselves in this situation will lose their money. Wells Fargo considers inactive accounts to be those that have not registered activity, bank transactions, deposits, payments or purchases for 16 months, reported Aktualno.

At the end of the warning period, if the bank’s customers do not activate the accounts and there is money in them, they will go to the state, according to state laws. And its recovery will not be easy, so it is best to avoid this situation.

To warn its customers, the bank sends notifications to affected users before deleting them, although it is not obliged to do so.

Although this message may cause great concern among Wells Fargo users, it is not as serious as it seems. To begin with, this notice is more aimed at those who have an account open for periodic use or for savings in emergencies. And in order not to be closed, it must simply be used to prove that the account is not inactive. To do this, some transaction can be made, money can be withdrawn or deposited or something can be paid with the bank account in question, so that it is automatically removed from the list of inactive accounts.

Regarding the dates for the deletion of accounts, „Union Rayo“ specifies that in April Wells Fargo will start sending notices and will subsequently close accounts that it considers inactive. It is also stated that this decision was taken by Wells Fargo to reduce operating costs, since banks are required to identify the holders of inactive accounts, which involves time and resources, writes „Marca“.

According to Art. 10, para. 2 of the Currency Law and Art. 13 of Regulation No. 27 of the Bulgarian National Bank, individuals are required to report to the Bulgarian National Bank once a year for all borrowings on accounts opened abroad, borrowings or debts on financial loans from/to foreign persons, as well as all investments in securities made without the mediation of a local person – an investment intermediary, Parite ni reported.

This must be done only if:

• the total amount of all receivables under financial loans from foreign persons and balances on accounts abroad (including those opened with a virtual bank headquartered abroad, with a payment institution or with an electronic money company) and securities held (which were acquired without the mediation of a resident – investment intermediary) is equal to or exceeds BGN 50,000 or their equivalent in foreign currency as of the end of the reporting year;

• the total amount of all liabilities under financial loans to foreign persons is equal to or exceeds BGN 50,000 or their equivalent in foreign currency as of the end of the reporting year.

Form SPB-8 is submitted in one of the following ways:

• electronically, through the ISIS Portal, in accordance with the Instructions for providing statistical information to the BNB electronically. The instructions, as well as a link to the Portal, are available on the BNB website (www.bnb.bg) in the Statistics / Electronic Submission of Reporting Forms section;

• on paper at the BNB registry office or by mail, at 1 Knyaz Alexander I Sq., Sofia 1000, for the Statistics Directorate.

The deadline for submitting the form for the 2024 reporting year is March 31, 2025.

This increase is the second for the year. A similar increase was already registered in January 2025, when excise duties on tobacco products were increased by about 6%. This was part of a plan adopted back in 2022, which envisaged a gradual increase in excise duties in the coming years. With the new budget, the government decided to implement the excise rates for 2026 as of May 1, 2025. Thus, the total increase in cigarette prices for this year will exceed 10%.

According to the latest data, Bulgaria is in 33rd place in the Numbeo ranking with an average price of 3.17 euros per pack of Marlboro.
