A sailor from Australia was shipwrecked in a small boat in Europe

An Australian traveler was shipwrecked near Primorsko, but local people helped him repair his small boat and continue his 6-month adventure on the water.

60-year-old Alexander McKinnon set off from the Romanian city of Sulina across the Danube Delta, with the idea that his first stop would be the Bosphorus. However, a storm overtook him along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

The Bulgarian national television covered the case.

He has already covered over 400 kilometers of his journey by sea.

„I sail this very, very small boat, it is only 3 meters long. A week ago near Varna, I capsized. The boat filled with water, but I managed to deal with it. Two days later, around Maslen nos, the weather it got worse again. Suddenly the rudder of the boat broke. The back part was torn off straight away. I swam, swam as hard as I could and reached Primorsko. I managed to get to the beach, but when I saw what condition it was in, I told myself it’s over, I’m giving up,“ he said the traveler Alexander MacKinnon.

The boat began to fill with water.

All seemed lost.

Alexander kept his cool.

At that time, the mother of Zdravko from Primorsko was with her friend for a walk.

She saw the distressed man and called her son.

„I told her to consider and shelter the man at home, because we have this opportunity. Some guys from Primorsko had repaired the rudder itself, but the more serious problem was with the boat itself. He brought the boat to Primorsko. Here, accordingly, I started to repair it . An item was broken that there was no where to buy or how to make. Besides the purely human side of helping a person in trouble, I also saw an opportunity, for the price of a shelter and a dinner to hear an amazing story,“ said Zdravko Vasilev.

It turns out that the foreigner will sail for 6 months, with his final destination being Venice. It’s not the first time he’s done it. He is an English teacher in Australia and was inspired to travel by the books he teaches to children. However, he did not expect that he would face this problem in the first week of his adventure.

„I am very grateful to these people. We became good friends. What they did was a miracle. I generally believe in the goodness of people, but because I was so far away from everything, I felt that I could not get help, I just I was desperate. And these people accepted me as part of their family,“ MacKinnon is grateful.

Although Bulgaria was not among the planned stops of Alexander’s journey, adversity met him with our country and he already has the Bulgarian tribagrenik on his boat.

„I showed him the whole town. He was very desperate. In two days in a town like Primorsko, a person can recover and I am glad that not only me and my family, but also the locals showed a really friendly attitude,“ said Zdravko Vasilev.

„Adventures are sometimes difficult, but they are always wonderful,“ McKinnon said.

Alexander will now sail to Istanbul, and what happened in Primorsko will be sealed in the pages of his new book, which he will publish after the successful end of his adventure.

Alexander is extremely grateful for the help from the locals.
He has stocked up on food for his next journey.
Headwind.

This person is unique, says Zdravko Vasilev.
