A meteorite startled two countries in Europe, they thought it was an air strike
The mountain rescue service in the counties of Gorz and Hunedoara in southwestern Romania was put on alert last night after a glowing object was spotted in the sky, which initially appeared to be a plane experiencing technical problems, Agerpress agency reported, citing information posted on the Facebook page of Mountain Rescue Service Romania.
„A meteor alerted mountain rescue services in Hunedoara and Gorges after a bright light with flame and rumble was seen in the sky in the Lupeni-Urikani region, moving at high speed to the south, not far from the ridge of Mount Vulcan. Mountain rescuers on duty at Hunedoara and Gorge bases raised the alarm, with the initial assumption being that it was a plane experiencing problems, the publication said.

According to the same source, the situation was initially unclear as there were no 112 calls to the incident and no alert of a downed plane or one in trouble.
The information and images obtained later allowed mountain rescuers to realize that it was a meteorite following a south-southeast trajectory along the line Stanesht-Targu Jiu-Targu Karbunesth. The information that will come in the next hours will confirm to us whether he fell in Romania and whether he had the speed and height to reach Bulgaria or Serbia, the publication states.
