Customs officers stopped the smuggling of more than 700 thousand dollars through the „Captain Andreevo“ checkpoint on the border between Bulgaria and Turkey.

They are brought as defendants in two fast-track proceedings for the fact that at the border post they did not declare in writing to the customs authorities currency transferred across the country’s border and the value of the money is particularly large – BGN 1,209,800 – about 700 thousand dollars in total for both cases.

On September 26, around 8:30 p.m., a truck with Turkish registration, driven by a 40-year-old Turkish citizen, arrived at the „Captain Andreevo“ border crossing to leave the country.

The truck was traveling from Great Britain to Turkey via Bulgaria. During a thorough customs inspection, after dismantling the upholstery in the rear part of the driver’s cabin, customs officials discovered undeclared cash in the amount of 83,410 British pounds with the BGN equivalent of 187,468 BGN.

On September 27, around 8:00 p.m., a car with Bulgarian registration arrived to leave the country for Turkey. Behind the wheel was a 23-year-old man with dual citizenship – Bulgarian and Turkish. During a check in the luggage compartment, packages of euro banknotes were found in a gas cylinder adapted for hiding. The total amount of discovered undeclared currency is 522,710 euros with the BGN equivalent of 1,022,331 BGN – 600 thousand dollars.
