A 2-year-old boy swallowed his mother’s methadone, life-threatening
District Prosecutor’s Office – Varna Bulgaria leads pre-trial proceedings under Art. 182, para. 1 of the Criminal Code in connection with a case in which a two-year-old child swallowed methadone. The investigation began on September 10, 2023, the Appellate Prosecutor’s Office announced.
According to the data collected at the moment, the two-year-old child was in his mother’s apartment when, around 7 p.m., the woman noticed that he was not feeling well. She noticed an open bottle containing methadone. Because she was enrolled in a methadone program for drug addicts, the substance was available in her home.
The emergency team that arrived at the scene immediately transported the injured child to a hospital, where he was placed in the intensive care unit with a life-threatening condition. His condition is currently stable and his life is no longer in danger.
The „Child Protection“ department was immediately notified of what happened.
A meeting is scheduled for the Coordination Mechanism to decide where the child will be placed after his discharge from the hospital.
Work on the investigation is still ongoing under the leadership and supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office – Varna. All details are clarified not only about the incident itself, but also about the circumstances that allowed it to happen.
