They caught a black glarus

Europe

A bird became a real sensation in Varna. A black glarus appeared in the city and surprised everyone in the maritime capital of Bulgaria. People wonder what kind of omen this is – is it like a white swallow and is lucky, or is it a curse and portends a bad tourist season for the city.

The black glarus is already known abroad, vacationers send photos and videos all over the world, Nova TV reported.

The unusual color of the bird has provoked a number of comments on social networks, with the arguments mainly surrounding whether it is possible that this black color is really natural or it is a matter of human intervention and it is simply painted. And while people are arguing, the black glarus is about to become one of the town’s mascots, and the people of Varna already want to come up with a name for it.

Nikolay Tanchev was among the first to notice the black bird in Varna – in the area of the Archaeological Museum. „At first I thought it was a crow, but then when I looked at how the other Glarus attacked him, I said to myself that this is something unusual,“ he told NOVA.

The museum staff also thought it was a crow. „I go outside to smoke, I put the cigarette down, I turn around and at one point the bird is behind me. I thought it was a crow and I was surprised, „God, what is this?“, explains Dora Mitkova.

Tanya Todorova says that the glarus was tame, allowed you to pet it and did not run away. People have their own explanation for the black color of the bird.

“It’s a pigment. This is a mutation with which nature reacts in order to evolve more successfully“, points out Nikolay Tanchev.

To find out if this is really possible, we ask the experts from the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds. „In Bulgaria, such a dark bird has never been seen. There was an observation years ago along the southern Black Sea coast, on the island of St. Ivan, where there is the largest colony of this species in Bulgaria of darker birds, but not to such an extent black“, notes the head of „Nature Protection Activities“ at the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, Mihail Iliev.

According to him, a possible cause is of course related to a natural mutation, which is present in many organisms. „On the pigment melanin, which is responsible for the dark coloring of the skin and various structures, such as feathers, for example, or a beak or hairs and fur,“ says Iliev.

But according to ornithologists, even with a mutation, there is no way to achieve such uniform coloring. And the disputes on the subject are also carried over to the international level.

And while people argue, the bird is not left without attention and food. “She enjoys a three-course meal. It is also common among us and we expect it again for the next laying“, says Nikolay Tanchev and adds that a survey was made on social networks to choose the most suitable name for the bird.
