A tradition in Russia is canceled due to the fear of assassinations.

This year there will be no traditional procession of the Immortal Regiment due to existing threats to public safety, said Elena Tsunaeva, co-chair of the Central Headquarters of the Immortal Regiment of Russia movement.

The central headquarters decided not to hold the march in person in 2024 „due to existing threats to public safety,“ Tsunaeva said at a news conference on Tuesday.

She noted that this year the commemorative events will begin on May 1. It is again proposed to conduct an „Immortal Regiment“ campaign in public transport, within the framework of which it is proposed to put portraits of heroes of the Great Patriotic War on cars.

In addition, the organizers propose to place portraits of water and air transport, Interfax reported.

„Another format that has become popular, and we also propose to continue it, is the „Gallery of Memory“. In public places, parks, squares, we propose to place portraits of heroes of the Second World War, recipients of an order. Glory, heroes of the Soviet Union with information about themselves, about their exploits,“ Tsunaeva added.

In turn, the Minister of Education of the Russian Federation, Sergey Kravtsov, said that the action will be held in educational institutions.

„This year we have planned many patriotic events and, of course, it is very important that on May 6, in all schools in our country from grades 1 to 11, there will be a lesson „Talking about the important things“, which will be. dedicated to the Victory Day holiday,“ said Kravtsov.

He also said that from May 6 to 8, events related to the action called „Immortal heroes are near us“ are planned in schools.

Kravtsov specified that the recommendations for holding the action have been sent to the schools, the schools will be able to choose specific dates and formats themselves.

In addition, schools are recommended to invite participants of the Great Patriotic War and participants of a special military operation to events.

Schools are also recommended to organize exhibitions on Victory Day, the exhibits of which may include photos of participants from the Second World War, as well as „Participants of the Northern Military Military District with a brief description of their exploits.“

„On May 9, we recommend, if possible, holding meetings and voluntary participation of parents and students, I think many will respond,“ he added.

The „Immortal Regiment“ is an international public civil-patriotic movement to preserve the memory of the generation from the Great Patriotic War. Every year on Victory Day, the participants of the movement march in columns through the streets of the city with photos of their relatives who participated in the war.

In 2020 and 2021, the Immortal Regiment event was held on May 9 in an online format due to the epidemiological situation related to the coronavirus. In 2022, the procession was held in the traditional format. In 2023, the organizers decided to abandon the traditional procession.
