Putin signs law to confiscate property for ‘spreading fake news’

Vladimir Putin signed the law on the confiscation of property for spreading fake news about the armed forces of the Russian Federation, which on the last day of January the State Duma immediately adopted in the second and third reading, reported 72.ru.

The law amends Article 104.1 of the Criminal Code. It contains a list of crimes for which the property of convicted persons can be „confiscated free of charge and converted into state property.“

According to the document, published on the official portal for legal information, not all money, valuables or other property of a convicted person will be subject to confiscation, but only those that he received as a result of committing a crime, or those that he used „for activities, directed against Russia’s security“.

There is no specific list of property subject to attachment, so it can be anything.

„As a rule, real estate, transport, money, jewelry and luxury goods are considered in the first place,“ explained lawyer Sergey Afanasiev.

In addition, today Vladimir Putin signed a „semi-dry“ law – from this day on, regional authorities can independently regulate the work of establishments and prohibit them from retailing beer and other low-alcohol beverages.
