Iran is behind the hijacking of an Israeli ship in the Red Sea

The ship Galaxy Leader with a crew of 25 was hijacked yesterday by the Yemeni Houthis in the Red Sea.

„The only way for information is Iran, but it has difficulty communicating with the outside world. Negotiations will still be held, but in any case they will go through Iran“, said Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister Milen Keremedchiev on BTV in connection with the hijacked ship with two Bulgarians in the Red Sea.

Yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that a cargo ship partially owned by an Israeli businessman had been hijacked by the Yemeni Houthis in the Red Sea. The vessel was leased from a British company to a Japanese company and was sailing under the Bahamian flag. The information is that there are two Bulgarians on board.

This is another act of Iranian terrorism, Netanyahu believes.

„The situation is very complicated, because unlike the negotiations with Hamas for the release of the nephews, where there is a dialogue and we know who the players are, with the Houthis it is very difficult because they are isolated and have been at war with Saudi Arabia for eight years,“ he pointed, Frog relayed.

According to him, this is a dangerous escalation of the conflict in the Middle East. According to him, while Hezbollah is afraid of opening a second front against Israel, the Houthis are not.

„A second front of action is opening. The US is also involved in this conflict. This escalation is directed and controlled by Iran. Tehran is categorically behind the actions of the Houthis. They have been arming them for eight years now,“ said Keremedchiev. He indicated that Iran’s intelligence was behind the kidnapping.

According to him, Iran opposes the Persian Gulf states. „This escalation of tension could lead to a halt in the talks that have started between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis to regulate the conflict. This could blow up the fragile truce that exists between the Houthis and the Gulf states. In this way, a second front could open against Israel, but also against Saudi Arabia,“ emphasized the former Deputy Foreign Minister.

He also commented on the statement by the Houthis that they will treat the detainees in accordance with the values of the Islamic religion. According to him, this means that they will detain the ship and the crew will remain on board.

He said the hostages could be used as a bargaining chip with those held by Israel.

„Bulgaria has good relations with the owner of the vessel, who is an Israeli citizen – Abraham Ungar. Many Bulgarian crews sail in the flotilla of this ship owner,“ Keremedchiev said.
