A 28-year-old Bulgarian man deliberately drove his Volvo car into a petrol station on the Slovak highway D1 near the town of Trnava, causing damage of around 200,000 euros, the national police of Slovakia reported, Dir.bg reported.

They also distributed a video of the accident that happened at the beginning of January this year. The man was driving a Volvo car with German license plates.

The video shows how, for no apparent reason, the car veers off the highway, enters the turnoff for the gas station, and at high speed crashes into the gas stations, one of which had a parked car. Miraculously, no one was hurt, but the damage is hundreds of thousands of euros.

The Bulgarian’s alcohol and drug tests were negative. He was detained, and according to information on the local website startitup.sk, it is possible that the man is a religious fanatic. During the interrogations by the police, he shouted „Allah akbar“ several times, and in response to the question why he did it, he stated: „An inner voice told me to direct the car at full speed to the gas station.“

Police have launched a general threat investigation. A search of the car, which has German registration, revealed items that could potentially be related to criminal activity.

According to startitup.sk, the Bulgarian’s name is Mitko Antonov Lazarov. He has already been brought before the court, which left him in custody. The judge even compared the young Bulgarian to the mass murderer from the University of Prague.

„It is not excluded that such impulses and sensations will be repeated, he will feel them again and drive the car straight into a crowd of people and cause an even more serious irreparable consequence – death. These facts are serious even considering the events of the last few days in Prague, where several students were killed by a person with a similar mental profile,“ the magistrate said
