Shocking discovery in Prigozhin’s home

Today the hammer is strongly associated with Yevgeny Prigozhin and PMK Wagner. The instrument of execution, previously attributed only to „musicians“, eventually became an almost official symbol of mercenaries. We tell you when Wagner’s hammer first appeared and what it means now.

The first sledgehammer video surfaced in 2017, showing three unidentified men torturing a man in civilian clothes. But there was no evidence that these were exactly the „Wagners“, and the image of a hammer for „musicians“ was not fixed.

The weapon began to be strongly associated with PMC fighters in 2022, when a video of the execution of the deserter Yevgeny Nuzhin, who escaped from Wagner and was captured by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was circulated on social networks, after which he announced that he wanted to fight on the side of Ukraine.

After Nuzhin’s execution, Yevgeny Prigozhin himself began to promote the blacksmith’s hammer as a symbol of PMC Wagner. So, after the European Parliament asked to recognize the „musicians“ as a terrorist organization, the Telegram channel CYBER FRONT Z said that Prigozhin sent the MEPs a bloodied hammer in a violin case.

The idea of using the blacksmith’s hammer as an image of the musicians was also taken up by Wagner’s supporters.

Thus, in December 2022, unknown persons threw hammers at the Finnish embassy in Moscow.

After that, the phrase „Wagner’s hammer“ became a stable phraseological unit, meaning cruel punishment of the enemy. Thus, for example, Prigozhin himself spoke, addressing the deputies who wanted to „fall on the knees of Uncle Sam“:

The first politician photographed with a Wagner hammer was the leader of the Just Russia party, Sergei Mironov. He posted on his Twitter a photo with a hammer signed by Prigozhin and thanks to the PMC founder:

„It’s a useful tool. Let all our enemies know that they will fail. The future of Russia depends on us.

Prigozhin also gave the blacksmith’s hammer to the military, for example, to Akhmat’s commander, Apta Alaudinov: the leader of the „musicians“ visited the general in the hospital and gave him a branded hammer in a box as a gift.

The idea was taken up by the regional authorities. For example, the mayor of Bugulma, Linar Zakirov, who went to the HVO zone and took a picture with the mobilized people, holding a hammer. The mayor called the hammer „a symbol of victory.“

Politicians from other countries also began to use the image of a hammer – for example, Alexander Lukashenko gave a hammer to Belarusian journalist Grigory Azarenok in April 2023. The President of Belarus briefly commented on the gift – „Let them know!“.

But the biggest hammer turned out to be in the house of Prigozhin, the founder of PMC Wagner: a huge hammer with the inscription „In case of important negotiations“ was found during searches.
