A phone exploded while charging, almost setting the whole house on fire

A problem with the mobile phone almost set fire to the house of Orlin Dimitrov from Varna Bulgaria. His phone caught fire while charging. The battery is completely burnt, the chair on which the device was left is also damaged.

Orlin Dimitrov has been using the phone in question for two years. During the next charging, the device caught fire while it was left unattended for a short time.

„During these 20 minutes, and most likely much less, the battery heated up to such a state that it exploded or at least melted. It also melted other parts of the phone that were scattered to the side,“ Dimitrov explained.

The phone was bought new with its original charger and so far it has had no problems.

In the store where it was bought, they were also very surprised by what happened

Specialists confirmed the words of Orlin Dimitrov that such incidents happen very rarely, but reminded us not to forget to follow the terms of use.

„It is good not to forget that lithium-ion batteries age and have a certain life cycle, after which they should be replaced,“ explained Nadezhda Kostadinova – head of the regional department „Market Surveillance“, North-Eastern Bulgaria at DAMTN.

The Agency for Metrological Supervision advises to strictly follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Practice shows that due to two or three similar cases, millions of mobile devices have been withdrawn from the market over the years, reports BNT.
