Rick Crowley / Saltford Manor House /: People still live in this 850-year-old house

Can you imagine living in a house built almost 850 years ago?

In traditional England there is that too.

The oldest inhabited stone house in England and possibly Europe is right there.

It is about Saltford Manor is a stone house in Saltford, Somerset.
The house was built a long, long time ago by William Fitz Robert, 2nd Earl of Gloucester.

It is a very curious fact that until 20 years ago no one in England knew that this was the oldest inhabited house there.
Because there are many other houses in England that are hundreds of years old and are buzzing with life.

It is believed that hundreds of years ago, the house was a single room, which was later extended.
Inside you can see many valuable exhibits – details of ancient windows, part of a medieval painting, which is priceless.

The kitchen is 3 centuries old and the fireplace has been preserved from Tudor times.
Most reconstructions were done in the 17th century.

In 2003, Saltford Manor was officially declared „Britain’s oldest continuously inhabited house“.

James Winn was the occupant of the house at the time. The house was sold in 2008 for £1,275,000.
