Where do the poor live in the US?

In the United States, more and more homeowners are facing serious problems for not meeting the „30% rule“ for housing costs, pixotab.com points out.

This problem results in a large number of families living beyond their means and being considered ‘poor’. Whether it’s due to high interest rates or choosing to live in expensive areas, affected homeowners face financial hardships that have long-term consequences.

According to an analysis by the Chamber of Commerce (US Census Bureau), more than 27% of homeowners are covered by this problem.

The consequences are particularly severe in major cities such as Miami, Los Angeles and New York, where 4 in 10 homeowners are considered „poor.“

Hialeah, Florida tops the top 5 cities with the most „poor“ homeowners, with 59.3% of them facing this problem.

In Los Angeles, California, that rate is 48.7%, and in New York City, it’s 45.3%. Miami and Hollywood, Florida, ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, with 44.6% and 44.3% „poor“ homeowners.

The root of this problem often lies in high housing costs, which include monthly mortgage payments, property taxes, insurance and utilities. With the median household income ranging between $64,386 and $122,032 in different cities, many homeowners are forced to spend a significant portion of their income on their housing costs.

The situation is also exacerbated by the high interest rates on mortgages, which make home loans unaffordable for many families. Combined with expensive housing markets in some areas, this results in heavy financial burdens for homeowners.

The government and stakeholders need to pay attention to this problem and focus on finding solutions to help homeowners manage their costs and live more financially sustainable.

More affordable mortgages, housing policy reforms and increased workers’ incomes are just some of the possible solutions to reducing the number of people struggling to afford housing.

Otherwise, the situation may worsen further and have long-term negative consequences for the economy and society as a whole.
