The Savior of the world greets those landing at the new terminal at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport

News

The eternal city of Rome is preparing with full force to win the hosting of Expo 2030.

The city administration spares no expense in this difficult battle, because the other candidates are Busan, South Korea, Odessa, Ukraine, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Moscow withdrew from the battle for understandable reasons.
The last acquisition is from the last hours.
This is the new boarding area at Fumichino Airport.
Capacity is 6 million people per year, which is still not enough, because the flow of tourists is constantly growing and will probably reach 10 million per year in the next decade.
If Rome wins Expo 2030, the number could double.
So the new acquisition was expected and delighted all of Italy.
Operations started today: The first flight was Ita’s AZ2010 at 07.00 to Milan Linate.

The new Terminal 1 was opened with a lavish celebration.

Leading figures in Italy were present – the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini, the Deputy Secretary of Culture Vittorio Sgarbi, the President of Enac, Pierluigi Di Palma, the CEO of Ita Airways, Fabio Lazzerini, the President of the Lazio Region, Francesco Rocca, the Mayor of the Metropolitan City and Municipality of Rome Roberto Gualtieri, the Deputy Mayor of Fiumicino Ezio Di Genezio Palluca and the Prefect Fabrizio Gallo, Director of the Fund for Religious Buildings of the Ministry of the Interior. Mundys President Giampiero Masolo, ADR President Claudio DeVincenti and ADR CEO Marco Troncone spoke on behalf of the group.

New infrastructure is the last word in technology

It is equipped with 22 exits, more than half of which are equipped with boarding piers.
The aim is to maximize the space intended for passengers and facilitate their orientation. By scanning a QR code placed on the leading walls of the boarding gates, passengers will be able to listen to a podcast guide of their arrival destination with highlights and must-see spots.

In the new boarding area, with a total area of almost 25,000 m2, there are 12 new cargo bridges for direct boarding of the aircraft, 44 self-boarding portals and, in addition to the digital columns, integrated into the structures. A new baggage handling system was installed in the arrivals area, with 3 new baggage carousels for an additional capacity of an additional 3 million passengers per year.
Rome is the 2nd most visited city in the EU, after Paris, and receives an average of 7–10 million tourists a year, which sometimes doubles on holy years. The Colosseum (4 million tourists) and the Vatican Museums (4.2 million tourists) are the 39th and 37th (respectively) most visited places in the world, according to a recent study.

The city of Rome is served by two airports: Intercontinental Airport Leonardo da Vinci, more simply known as Fiumicino Airport, and Ciampino Airport 1. Both airports operate with international airlines, thus offering flights to most of the countries in the world.

The average price for one person for accommodation in Rome is €70. For two people sharing a typical double-occupancy hotel room, the average price for a hotel room in Rome is €141  However, prices can vary depending on the location, season, and type of accommodation you choose.
To make everything Italian spectacular, one of the greatest works of all time was exhibited at the airport. At the Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino, the last masterpiece of Gian Lorenzo Bernini is on display, the Salvator Mundi of the Church of San Sebastiano Fuori le Mura, a work from 1679, found in the Roman church only in 2001: it is a marble bust that was intended for Queen Christina of Sweden and after her death was given to Pope Innocent X.
